Midway/St. Paul
Cemetery

History St. Paul Lutheran Church was organized in 1892 and held services at Midway School. The cemetery was founded in 1895, and the first church was built in 1898. There was a great need for a local cemetery at the time, since the closest cemetery was at Anthon, and with all dirt roads, many times it was not possible to travel. Several people were being buried in the yard at their own home.

Research Much credit for information about the people buried in the cemetery goes to Mr. Richard Hamann who has published a book based on his research. Midway St. Paul Cemetery, 1895-2004 is organized around the six blocks that comprise the cemetery. He lists the owners of the block and the names of those buried there. He has also meticulously told stories about these people and their families, making connections with others who lived in the area. Since most were farmers, he also tells where they farmed and where they lived after farming. His book would be invaluable for those researching their family history.

Two listings of those buried available here as downloads. One is alphabetical by last name. The second is a list by burial plot. Thanks to Jana Hamann for help in adding information from 2004 to the present. Click on the desired file to download.
